Sabrina Smlth

In 1990, Sabrina Butler was convicted in the death of her nine-month-old son. After many hours of interrogation, the then 18-year-old Sabrina signed a statement claiming that she had punched the baby in the stomach. Sabrina was sentenced to death. She was granted a new trial in 1992 after an appeals court determined that the prosecutor had made some improper statements. This time Sabrina was acquitted after her attorney provided evidence that the alleged injuries were consistent with the life saving measures that a neighbor witnessed Sabrina attempting on her baby.

Sabrina has spoken to high school students, on panels about wrongful conviction, and to conviction review units in Colorado and Florida.
